Diario del Puerto Publicaciones interviews Alfredo Serrano to find out about the present and the future of the industry. Comencemos fuerte, ¿cómo definiría a la industria del crucero? Diría que estamos ante una industria resiliente, innovadora y pionera; comprometida con el entorno, visionaria, centrada en las personas y que busca la excelencia; una industria que siempre quiere ir un paso más allá para lograr su visión: convertirse en líder en cuanto a turismo sostenible se refiere. ¿Cómo ha ido el año 2022? ¿Qué balance realizan? En estos momentos aun no disponemos de datos relacionados con el volumen de pasajeros alcanzado en 2022, pero de lo que no hay duda es que ha sido un año clave de cara a consolidar la recuperación y de conseguir recuperar las cifras prepandemia este ejercicio. Amodo de recordatorio, quisiera destacar que cerca de 30 millones de personas disfrutaron de un crucero en 2019, una cifra récord. Igualmente, y según recoge nuestro informe “Perspectivas de la industria de cruceros 2022”, esperamos que en 2026 este volumen sea un 12% superior al alcanzado en 2019. A pesar de los retos, con un comienzo de año marcado la variable ómicron y la inestabilidad geopolítica, la industria ha continuado avanzando de forma constante en su recuperación, al igual que otros segmentos dentro de la industria turística. Poco a poco, se han ido abriendo los mercados en los que todavía no estaba permitido operar, las restricciones se fueron reduciendo, y de forma paulatina, un mayor número Let’s get down to business, howwould you define the cruise industry? The figures for passenger numbers for 2022 are still not in, but there is no doubt that it was a key year in terms of consolidating the industry’s recovery and paving the way to return to pre-pandemic figures in 2023. As a reminder, I would like to point out that nearly 30 million people went on a cruise in 2019, a record figure. Likewise, and according to our ”Cruise Industry Outlook 2022” report, we expect the figures for 2026 to be 12% higher than those recorded in 2019. Despite the challenges, with a start to the year marked by the omicron variant and geopolitical instability, the industry made steady progress towards recovery, as did other segments in the tourism industry. Gradually, the markets that had not restarted operations opened up, restrictions were relaxed, and gradually, a greater number of ships came back into service.
