COLD CHAIN LOGISTICS- FRUIT LOGISTICA 2022

DIARIO DEL PUERTO COLD CHAIN LOGISTICS - FRUIT LOGISTICA 2022 58 PORT OF HUELVA ThePort of Huelva, a coreport in the Trans-European Transport Network and part of the Trans-European multimodal transport networks, provides efficient logistics chains for the temperature-controlled goods production sector in its hinterland, positioning it as a benchmark logistics hub for highly strategic markets of interest, such as the Canary Islands and Morocco, and delivering efficient connectivity with the United Kingdom and other countries in the Atlantic Arc of Northern Europe. FACTS AND FIGURES In 2021, container traffic at the Port of Huelva reached a volume of 80,000 TEUs and 25,000 roll-on/roll-off units (semitrailers), in which temperature-controlled goods played a fundamental role. SERVICES AND PROJECTS The Port of Huelva’s South Quay has different power outlets distributed between the container terminal and the Ro-ro terminal. These can be quicky increased in number, as the terminals have meshed installations. In addition, the space dedicated to the Cold Logistics Hub is located in a strategic position on the South Quay, where the futurestorageanddistribution facilitiesof theconcessionaire of thesespaces, FrigoríficosPortuariosdel Sur, will be located, with direct access to the Border Inspection Point. This project will supply ecological cold to cold storage facilities on the South Quay, taking advantage of the inherent cold of the LNG that is unloaded at the Enagás terminal, thus bringing environmental benefits and improving energy efficiency. The Port of Huelva’s value proposition for temperaturecontrolled goods involves high specialisation in this type of traffic, infrastructure and services, as well as extensive land, rail and road connectivity with points in inland areas, where short sea shipping offers an optimal combined solution to the different operators for the international transport of perishable goods through the Port of Huelva.
