The third is the United Kingdom (29 GW), followed by France (21 GW), Sweden (15 GW) and Turkey (12 GW). Together they account for two thirds of the total installed capacity in Europe. Currently, wind energy in Europe produces more than 17% of the electricity consumed on the continent and has cumulative capacity of 255 GW, of which 30 GW is offshore wind. SPAIN, LEADER IN WIND TURBINES Spain has more than 250 manufacturing centres in sixteen of the seventeen autonomous regions. Spain covers 100% of the entire supply chain, is a leader in the manufacture of wind turbines and is one of the countries with the highest machinery exports. The manufacturing capacity in Spain is 4,000 MW/year. In terms of jobs, the sector employs over 32,000 people and this is expected to double by 2030. The leading wind turbine manufacturers in terms of total cumulative wind power capacity in Spain are Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, General Electric, Nordex Acciona Windpower and Enercon. In 2022, the five manufacturers that installed the greatest number of wind turbines in Spain were Nordex Acciona Windpower, Siemens Gamesa, General Electric, Vestas and Enercon. The wind power developers leading the ranking by total accumulated capacity in Spain were Iberdrola, Acciona Energía, Enel Green Power/Endesa, EDPR and Naturgy. In 2022, the companies that installed the most wind power capacity were Enel Green Power/Endesa, GECAMA, Elawan Energy, Eni Plenitude and Molinos del Ebro. FORECAST INCREASE The Spanish wind power industry estimates that, if the necessary financing is obtained, 7.2 GW of new capacity can be installed by 2025 (of the 11.5 GW currently with a positive EIS) and a further 5 GW by 2027 (of the 36 GW currently in the pipeline and due for completion in the next two years). In total, 12.2 GW of new wind power capacity by 2027, making Spain one of the largest markets in Europe. According to the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE), ”our industry needs sustainability and stability throughout the value chain in order to remain competitive. The industry needs longer-term market visibility, not just for the next two years, in order to roll out comprehensive strategic planning that leads to cost optimisation. The effect of moving from a drought of projects to a massive buildup, driven by compliance with regulatory milestones, although it may provide a theoretically favourable scenario for the future, creates industrial tension and supply chain saturation that pose a major challenge for the wind industry.”
