FRUIT LOGISTICA 2023

Puertos - Ports 85 The Port of Seville is the only inland seaport in Spain. It is located in one of Spain’s main cities and is the freight centre in the south of the peninsula. It is a multimodal port with maritime and land connections and its 850 hectares offer plenty of space for logistics and industrial development. It is a strategic enclave for the European Union, next to the navigable Guadalquivir waterway. It has six port terminals and three public quays, over 4,000 metres of berthing line, one million square metres of warehouses, a full, developed Logistics Activities Area (ZAL), and a free trade zone. FACTS AND FIGURES In 2021, the Port of Seville handled 67,125 tonnes of fruit, vegetables, and pulses, and in 2022 up to November, it handled a cumulative total of 47,196 tonnes. This traffic was mainly with the Canary Islands, as Seville is one of the main ports in Spain for inbound and outbound goods to these islands. In total, up to November 2022, agrifood traffic out of the Port of Seville exceeded 1.2 million tonnes of general cargo, bulk solids and liquids. SERVICES AND PROJECTS The Port of Seville has a 6,000 square metre platform in the ZAL, where a state-of-the-art cold store has been built, managed by Carbó Collbatallé. This facility stores and transports fruit and vegetables at controlled temperatures. This strategic location provides distribution to the south of the Iberian Peninsula as well as to the Canary Islands and North Africa. The Guadalquivir Shipping Terminal has an area for reefer containers with 78 electrical connections. The container terminal has a capacity of 300,000 TEUs, a rail terminal, a Ro-ro ramp and two gantry cranes. The Port Authority of Seville is promoting the development of a second Logistics Activities Area on public port land to boost this type of traffic and increase the capacity of port facilities dealing in the temperature-controlled produce sector.
