Francisco J. Grau, managing director de TMEIC Port Technolog ies , coinc ide en cuanto a las principales tendencias, aunque las reduce a tres: ÎAll experts agree that the main trends shaping the future of port machinery in the coming years will follow three paths: electrification (inevitably linked to sustainability), automation, and digitalization. JUAN CARLOS PALAU VALENCIA. The port machinery industry is facing this convergence of three major drivers of transformation, as confirmed by the experts consulted by this newspaper. According to José Andrés Giménez , Director of Port Logistics at the Valenciaport Foundation, these drivers are decarbonization, digitalization, and operational integration, as well as economic and operationaluncertainty; heexplains that, regarding decarbonization, “regulatory pressure, especially in Europe, and customer demands are forcing an accelerated transition toward zero- or low-emission equipment.” In this regard, Ricardo Moncho, Sales & Marketing Manager at STS Transfer Line, identifies four clear trends: “Progressive automation, intensive use of data and artificial intelligence, optimization of existing assets versus new investments, and the digitization of decision-making.” Francisco J. Grau, Managing Di r e c to r o f TME IC Po r t Technologies, agreesonthemain trends, thoughhenarrows them down to three: “Digitalization, electrification/carbon footprint reduction, and automation. TMEIC is investing resources and talent in all three areas to become the industry leader in each of them.” Regarding digitalization and operational integration, Giménez notes that machinery “is no longer viewed as an isolated asset, but rather as a valuable source of information within the terminals’ operational ecosystem.” He also highlights a key challenge: “Ensuring interoperability, data quality, and integration with terminal and port systems through industry-accepted standards.” For his part, David Alonso, Head of Specialty Tires Spain at Continental, notes that the evolutionof theportmachinerysectorwill be “veryclear, thoughnot necessarily uniform. Wewill see ports that are more electrified, more automated, and, above all, muchmore reliant onthe intelligent use of data.” “The real transformation will come from data. The ability to capture, interpret, and use La maquinaria portuaria ya no se entiende como un activo aislado en el ecosistema de la terminal. / Port machinery is no longer viewed as an isolated asset within the terminal ecosystem.
