Sin embargo, y a pesar de la concienciación de los operadores portuarios, dicho proceso supone un alto coste y un retorno de la inversión que en ocasiones excede los plazos impuestos por las propias terminales. Todas estas calificaciones definen el estado del proceso en el que los operadores portuarios están inmersos para que la electrificación de sus instalaciones sea una realidad. Aunque la velocidad de estos procesos de electrificación no es homogénea, sí es ciertoque todas las empresas estibadoras consultadas reconocenque, enmayor o menor medida, todas han iniciado ya este camino. El camino hacia la descarbonizaciónde laactividadportuaria noes fácil ni barato. Los procesos de modernización no se llevan a cabosóloparaafrontar el normal desgaste de la maquinaria, sino que busca transformar la operativapara lograr esadescarbonización. “Si bienestamos totalmente comprometidos con la reducción de emisiones, la realidad es que la maquinaria limpia que necesitamos puede costar entre 2 y 3 veces más que la convencional”, advierte JoséLuisRomero, secretario general de ANESCO. En ese sentido, el directivo advierte de “enormes barreras económicas y técnicas”. Por ello, para que esta apuesta por maquinaria de cero emisiones sea compatible con prestar servicios competitivos, deben existir “ayudas públicas que financien esa transición”, además de que el Estado debe garantizar “un suministro eléctrico estable y a precios razonables”. The path toward decarbonizing port operations is neither easy nor cheap. Modernization efforts are not undertaken merely to address normal machinerywear and tear, but rather to transform operations to achieve decarbonization. “While we are fully committed to reducing emissions, the reality is that the clean machinery we need can cost two to three times more than conventional equipment,” warns José Luis Romero, secretary general of ANESCO.
