La Vega Baja, como comarca hortofrutícola por excelencia de la provincia, y la actividad agroalimentaria de su hinterland, que abarca la Comunidad Valenciana, Murcia, Castilla la Mancha y Madrid, convierten al Puerto de Alicante en puerto de salida y entrada con el norte de África, Canarias y Baleares. El enclave se abre al resto de Europa también como plataforma intermodal, gracias a su conexión ferroviaria. El tráficodeproductos agroalimentarios enel PuertodeAlmería estáal alza. Hasta el pasado 15 de diciembre el tráfico de productos agroalimentarios había alcanzado las 312.108 toneladas, un tercio de los cuales corresponden a producto hortofrutícola. ÎServicios El Puerto de Almería cuenta con una superficie disponible destacable en el Mediterráneo y muelles con gran calado para atender cualquier tráfico marítimo. También, entre otros, posee conexiones eléctricas para camiones y contenedores refrigerados (reefer) en la Terminal de TráficoPesado y en la de Terminal de Contenedores. Además, dispone de Instalaciones Fronterizas de Control Sanitario de Mercancías (IFCSM) con el PCF (Puesto de Control Fronterizo). Así, reúne en un mismo espacio todos los controles sanitarios y no sanitarios de lasmercancías en frontera. ÎProyectos La AP de Almería ha abierto recientemente el acceso directo al Puerto de Almería desde la N-340, lo que da fluidez al tráfico pesado a su entrada al puerto, a la vez que permitirá al puertodesarrollar supotencial de crecimiento enexportacióndemercancías y fortalecer su posicionamiento como una alternativa en la cadena logística para complementar el transporte por carretera. LaampliacióndelMuelledePechinaesotrode losgrandesproyectosde laAutoridad Portuaria, que consiste en prolongar en 260metros la línea de atraque, alcanzando un calado de 18metros, y en ganar 5 hectáreas de superficie.
