DIARIO DEL PUERTO Spain, port by port 41 MELILLA INFRASTRUCTURE FOR CRUISE SHIPS The Port of Malaga’s infrastructures can accommodate several vessels at the same time including the world’s largest ships. Examples of this are the North and South Berths and the Levante Breakwater. It also has a quay attached to the Levante Breakwater to accommodate vessels of up to 200 meters in length. Cruise terminals A and B handle berthing and passengers in these areas, in addition to the Palmeral Terminal located on quay 2, the closest to the city, which is just a five-minute walk from its historic district. MAIN DEVELOPMENTS SHOWCASED AT SEATRADE CRUISE GLOBAL Malaga is set to host Seatrade Cruise Med, the international cruise fair in theMediterranean, on September 14 and 15. This event, supported by local, regional and national partners, will put the port and the destination firmly on the world map of cruise tourism. The fair includes the trade show, as well as other events in the port and in the city for the general public. THE MAIN ATTRACTIONS OF THIS DESTINATION ARE... The Palmeral and the Quay One shopping area have become public spaces with cultural, gastronomic and entertainment experiences which are ideal for attracting visitors. Cruise passengers can disembark in this modern area, as the terminal is located within the areas mentioned above. The capital has important cultural attractions, such as the Pompidou and Picasso museums. In turn, the province has beautiful landscapes and very interesting routes such as the Caminito del Rey. INFRASTRUCTURE The Port of Melilla has three quays mainly handling Ro-pax traffic, with a capacity for ships between 170 and 230 metres long with drafts of 8 to 10 metres. These quays are linked to a 14,000 m2 passenger terminal which has a wide range of shops and leisure facilities. It alsohas twoothermultipurpose quays that can accommodate vessels over 300 metres long with a draft of between 11 and 12 metres. The Port of Melilla, located at the foot of the fortified enclosure and fiveminutes’ walk from the city centre, offers cruise passengers the chance to stroll through Spain’s second most Modernist city after Barcelona or experience a journey back in time by visiting its Citadel.
