This is added to the privileged location of the Port of Alicante, close to the city, which cruise passengers can access on foot as soon as they get off the ship. The province also has the fifth busiest airport in Spain and has excellent land connectivity. MSC has scheduled 12 calls of the MSC Orchestra in the port this year. THE MAIN ATTRACTIONS OF THIS DESTINATION ARE... The appeal of the city of Alicante and its province, its strategic geographical location, its wide range of hotels, leisure and shopping, handicrafts, sports tourism and its rich cultural heritage that includes landmarks such as Santa Barbara Castle, a castle route (with many of its fortresses declared as cultural heritage sites, the Mystery of Elche and the Elche PalmGrove (declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO) and the historic towns of Orihuela, Alcoy, Cocentaina, Guadalest Castle, Tabarca, Villajoyosa and Villena, which have been declared as cultural heritage sites. In addition, Alicante boasts excellent cuisine with products with the Designation of Origin mark and the option of wine tourism. INFRASTRUCTURE FOR CRUISE SHIPS The Port of Almeria has several berths. The Levante Quay, 200 meters long and 8 meters deep, is used exclusively for cruise ships. The second berth on the Ribera Quay is for larger cruise ships and is 450meters long and 10meters deep. If necessary, cruise ships can also use the four ro-ro berths located on the Ribera Quay’s two jetties. The APA is finalizing the drafting of the project to extend and adapt the Levante Quay, which will double its current surface area and enable it to accommodate cruise ships with greater draughts. THE MAIN ATTRACTIONS OF THIS DESTINATION ARE... Almeria is a Mediterranean enclave of contrasts, where unspoiled beaches coexist with the only desert in Europe and the snow of Sierra Nevada; castles with mosques, and churches with old winding streets. Spain’s only fortified cathedral is only a ten-minute walk from the ship, and from there, visitors can go on to the castle, which is a 10th century Muslim fort. The area offers a variety of excursions to visit traditional white villages, western movie theme parks, bird watching, 4x4 adventures, kayaking and tours of the Cabo de Gata Natural Park and the Tabernas desert.
