COLD CHAIN LOGISTICS- FRUIT LOGISTICA 2022

DIARIO DEL PUERTO Ports 65 PORT OF VILAGARCIA At the end of the 20th century, thanks to its central location on the Galician Atlantic coast, its excellent land communications, and the availability of land for the creation of cold chain logistics facilities, the Port of Vilagarcia attracted major cold chain logistics investments for the construction of two warehouses dedicated to fish storage and processing around the Comboa quay, which have since been consolidated. SERVICES AND CONCESSIONS Profand and Fandicosta are the holders of these concessions. Both companies, of Galician origin, but with an outstanding international outreach, specialise in processed fish and other maritime products, covering the entire value chain from fishing to sales. This industry is one of the main sources of employment in the Port of Vilagarcia, with a high percentage of women in the workforce. The value of the frozen fish delivered to the Port of Vilagarcia (both by sea and land) exceeded €180 million in 2020 (the last year for which this data is available). SURFACE AREA AND TRAFFIC Profand Vilagarcía has a surface area of 30,426 square metres in the port. In 2021, it handled a total of 60,092 tonnes. The Fandicosta facility in the Port of Vilagarcia has a surface area of 6,089 square metres. In 2021, it handled 20,223.57 tonnes of refrigerated goods.
