DIARIO DEL PUERTO Ports 63 PORT OF VALENCIA Valenciaport has a strategic position in the Mediterranean and ranks 19th among the best-connected ports in the world, fourth in Europe and first in Spain according to the Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) compiled by UNCTAD. In 2021, the Border Inspection Post at the Port of Sagunto was put into service. This is a key infrastructure for improving the facility’s competitiveness and will enable diversification of the goods arriving at its docks, especially fruit, vegetables and meat products. FACTS AND FIGURES Valenciaport’s ports handled 2,802,856 tonnes in reefer containers (195,767 TEUs). Fruit and vegetables were one of the main product categories, with a total throughput of 1,121,335 tonnes. 433,439 tonnes were exported, and 263,571 tonnes were imported. Frozen and refrigerated fish throughput stood at 399,522 tonnes, of which 14,369 tonnes were exported and 138,776 tonnes were imported. SERVICES AND CONNECTIVITY The world’s three main shipping lines operate out of the Port of Valencia. The CSP Iberia terminal (COSCO) has 1,500 reefer connections, APM (MAERSK) has 750, and the MSC Terminal has around 1,000 connections and plans to increase its reefer container facilities by 10%. It also has the Agro Merchants Group warehouse, which has 16,000 square metres for cold chain logistics and became part of the Americold group in 2021, and the 17,000 square metre border inspection post which, through the Quality Mark, guarantees that any container taken to these facilities must be checked in less than 45 minutes. Valenciaport maintains connections with 168 different countries and around one hundred regular lines managed by 35 different shipping companies, operate out of its docks. It is worth highlighting the MEDLOG project, a business extension of the MSC group, which is developing a logistics warehouse in the Port of Valencia’s Logistics Activities Area (ZAL) specialising in cold container transport for frozen and refrigerated products with an investment of €35.76 million.
