COLD CHAIN LOGISTICS- FRUIT LOGISTICA 2022

DIARIO DEL PUERTO Ports 61 PORT OF SEVILLE The Port of Seville is a strategic enclave for the European Union with maritime, rail and road connections. Its added value for cold chain logistics lies in the port’s inland location, which makes it completely multimodal as it can combine maritime, rail and road transport. In total, the Port has more than 60,000 square metres for cold chain logistics. FACTS AND FIGURES The Port of Seville grew by 20.95% in 2021 compared to 2020. According to Port Authority figures, the main agrifood traffic (139,554 tonnes) came from products other than fruit, vegetables, pulses and frozen fish. The Port’s total throughput of this type of traffic was 192,798 tonnes in 2021. SERVICES AND PROJECTS The Port of Seville’s Logistics Activities Area (ZAL) is the first of its kind in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. It has a surface area of 54 hectares and 200,000 square metres of warehouses, from where storage and distribution services are provided to the whole of Andalusia, Extremadura, the Canary Islands and North Africa. The ZAL has a cold storage platform belonging to the Carbó Collbatallé group with a state-of-the-art refrigerated warehouse with 12 unloading bays. The new cold storage centre stores and transports food products at controlled temperatures, which are distributed to the south of the peninsula and can then be transported to the Canary Islands and North Africa. In addition, the companies Frigodocks S.A. and Portofrío Logistics, which offer a complete range of services for reefer goods, from storage and conservation to customs warehousing, also operate out of the Port. The Port and the port community are working to consolidate their position as a key link in the supply chain and to improve connectivity with the main shipping routes around the world. In addition, the ZAL is planning to expand its cold storage facilities with new warehouse developments.
