DIARIO DEL PUERTO COLD CHAIN LOGISTICS - FRUIT LOGISTICA 2022 60 PORT OFMALAGA The Port of Malaga’s logistics and proximity to its importers in the area enables it to offer added value to cold chain logistics. In this sense, the Port of Malaga focuses its strategy on continuing to work with its import and export clients and industry players, as well as attracting newones to its facilities in coordination with the shipping lines and terminals. FACTS AND FIGURES In 2021, the Port of Malaga imported a total of 1,034 reefers, compared to 283 in 2020, which represents an increase of 265.37%. Throughput of fruit, vegetables and pulses at the Port of Malaga in 2021 totalled 119,513 tonnes, up 80.53%on 2020 and 140.10% compared to 2019, denoting dramatic, sustainable growth. Likewise, total frozen and refrigerated fish traffic in the Port of Malaga grew by 187.67% in 2021 (16,110 tonnes) compared to 2020 (5,600) and by 93.09% (8,343) compared to 2019. SERVICES The Port of Malaga has earmarked part of its investments to the creation of three new cold storage facilities (from two to five), as well as to the expansion of the Reefer Inspection Area. In addition, the Port Authority aims to continue to grow in the number of reefer connections. It plans to reach 552 this year and expects to reach a total of 696 connections in the medium term. The Port Authority of Malaga is working with the various logistics operators in the area, such as Noatum Logistics, Adtrans and Nieves, to further strengthen refrigerated goods traffic in the port.
