DIARIO DEL PUERTO COLD CHAIN LOGISTICS - FRUIT LOGISTICA 2022 56 PORT OF CADIZ The Port of the Bay of Cadiz, due to its strategic geographical position on the Straits of Gibraltar, between the two major Europe-Africa and America-Mediterranean maritime traffic corridors, and to its infrastructures and services, is the best logistics alternative in southern Europe for the transport of refrigerated perishable goods. In total, it has 26,348 square metres of cold storage facilities in its different docks. CONNECTIVITY The Port of Cadiz is a major player in the throughput of perishable cargo thanks to Trasmediterránea’s regular line with the Canary Islands, and themotorway of the sea with the Islands set up by Boluda, which runs a daily container service between the Port of Cadiz and the Canary Islands. By land, it is connected to the motorways and dual carriageways of southern Spain, which link up with the entire national and international road network, extending its hinterland to the entire European continent. The rail freight service starts at the Renfe train station in El Puerto de Santa María, where it connects to the national and international railway network. It also has another connection through the rail freight logistics terminal in Jerez de la Frontera. By air, it is only 40 km from Jerez airport, which has a customs service for exports and imports and transit operations. PROJECTS The Port of Cadiz is currently processing an administrative concession application made by PTP Group, an Argentinean holding company which plans to invest €16.5 million in the construction of a cold storage plant and another facility for the storage of bulk and general goods in La CabezuelaPuerto Real. The cold storage plant, which includes fruit and vegetable refrigeration and meat freezing, will be located on a 24,266 square metre plot of land bordered to the north by Dragados Off-Shore and to the south by Puma Energía.
