Meanwhile, the Port of Valencia has managed to recover 13.24% of its prepandemic traffic but is still 10.62% short of the figures recorded for refrigerated goods in 2020. The picture is very different for frozen and refrigerated fish traffic. According to data provided by the State-owned Ports Body, the 26 ports that handle this type of goods, reached a throughput of 4.75 million tonnes in 2021, falling short of the levels reached in previous years. Compared to 2020, in which 4.75 million tonnes of frozen and refrigerated fish were registered, the ports recorded negative growth of 0.18%; while figures fell by 10.87% compared to the pre-pandemic year, when throughput was 5.32 million tonnes. The different Spanish ports are focusing their investments on upgrading their infrastructures and enlarging quays, as well as on new cold storage facilities TOTAL FROZEN AND REFRIGERATED FISH TRAFFIC (TONNES) Source: State-owned Ports Body
